I've got a 07 SRT8/GC that threw the "Service 4WD system" on the the dash. The truck is now in RWD only, so I figure it is a transfer case issue. The Predator tuner won't read it, my Snap-On Modis won't find any codes.

Is there any way to "jump" a connection to make the truck tell me what code it is?:thanks:

I don't think there is any way to jump and force the code out.

My suggestion is to get to your local dealer and have them hook up the Star Scan. Even if they can not find the code, the Jeep being in RWD only will be enough for them to find the problem and fix it. Should still be under warranty as well?

    Welcome to the "C".

Thanks guys! Tried another scan tool on it and can't find codes with either. I'm thinking there may be an issue with the TCM.

Truck has 52k miles on it, so no warranty...good thing I own a shop, LOL.

Drain the TC fluid last night, it was black and smelt of burnt clutch material. I will probably drop it, crack it open and see if there is any visible damage or excessive wear.

I'm also looking to see if there is a way to test the actuator motor. It may be an issue if it is not engaging the clutch packs.:dumb:

Tested the actuator for the transfer case, it gets voltage properly, but doesn't move or make any noise. I think it burnt out, so I'll drop in a new one and pray a lot. It is MUCH cheaper than a new T-case.

Well, it looks like the GC was run in 2wd mode too long and burnt up the clutches in the transfer case. New ones are ordered and will be here next week. Gotta drop the t-case and see if any other parts need attention.

Sidenote, the previous owner put 2 identical switches in the truck, one for the iPod, the other to put it in 2wd mode to dyno it....guess which switch I accidently pushed.

    That switch is now gone.

Fixed. 4 of 7 clutches were toast. Put new clutches and steels, cleaned everything up and she runs like dog on fire.

Apparently driving these things in 2wd mode does bad things to the transfer case. Lesson learned. At least I know how to rebuild them now, hehe.;)

Just amazing that it would do that kind of damage.

Positive, you know how to do the rebuild and a lesson for other GC guys to learn.

The wire the "2wd mode" switch was wired in, it just stops the enagagement actuator motor in any position. Sometimes, it can leave the transfer case partially engaged...leading to massive slip.

Hmmm So let me see if I hear you right. (DON"T PUT MY TRUCK INTO 2WD) ok I think I heard ya hahahahaha. well since I don't have any 2wd switch and don't care about dyno testing mine right now (and when I do I'll just find a 4wd to deal with t dyno). I hope I won't have deal with this.

Put it's nice to read these post where others have had issues incase mine starts acting up or something.

Was this one of those common "mods" for the Jeeps? I remember way back when that a lot of guys were looking for a way to disable the 4wd in order to do doughnuts in the snow and the likes.
