No, I aint trading...like modding my 07.....drove my brother's new car. He traded his 06 Charger RT (140K miles) for the 2012 SRT.. First thing the seats...I thought the 1st gen SRT seats were comfortable...the 12 seats are best seats bar none that I have set in. The new info screen has everything...even a dyno...may have too much info..LOL.. Power is great...definitely can feel at least 50 more horses.....easily breaks the rear tires at 20 mph in sport mode....I can believe it can do high 12s as advertised..... Handling is great...I will have to say it would have no trouble leaving a gen 1 srt in it's dust on a road course....drivers being equal.....it also handles better than the 2011 Challenger 392 SRT I drove last July at VIR. The Challenger suspension didnt seem to be matched well with the 392...my 07 would have no trouble taking a Challenger on a road course....but I was told by an SRT engineer that changes would be made to the 2012 Chally suspension.. The only negative things I noticed were 1: The Exhaust...much quieter than the Gen 1 SRT exhaust....I guess the lower growl is maybe due to the baffling to keep you from hearing the MDS kick in....An SRT engineer at VIR told me she had worked with a team that spent 9 months designing a system to kill the MDS drone...wouldnt talk about what they did though.. The 2nd negative is the old fart sound when the trans shifts at WOT...I thought they had cured that on the Gen 1s?......May be a long time before a tune comes along to get rid of that.. Overall I really like the car...handles well and rides much smoother than the gen 1.....I really like the looks but that is JMO...The side and rear views take me back to 1970.... If I could swing it I would buy the 2012 for a daily and keep modding the 07......the 12 is almost too high tech to be a "modding" car....what I mean is the Gen 1s are more of a modern muscle car...high tech but still on the primitive side if you know what I mean?...The 12 is more inline with higher priced high perf luxury cars...... Of course until Diablo or other company breaks into the PCM the 12 will be a pure bolt on car....unless you have mucho $$$ to send to Arrington to have the PCM changed over to a 2010....but all the high tech may not work?...
Awesome review Larry! The only fix for the gen 1 fart is a tune (Corsa doesn't fix it). Can't ever have too much info on the EVIC ...If they only had a 2012 392 Magnum...
I just got back from lunch with my brother and he was showing me some of the features...he can walk up to the car and touch the trunk lid and it opens...touches the driver's door and it unlocks....and touch the start button and she fires up......just have to have the key in his pocket.......also can watch a video on the EVIC/NAV screen... Shows the speed limit where ever he is at.....can pull up gas prices at any stations close to him...even can have it display the cheapest price and directions....this thing does so much it would be quicker just to say what it cant do.:hypno:....this is a tech lover's dream...
Yes, you do need to drive one.....BTW....My dealer has 2 instock...Black with red/black interior and Red with black interior...and he will sell below sticker price...
For guys who don't touch the paint with their fingers, the keyless entry does me no good. Great reviews Larry. Thanks man.
I don't really know why but was never really a charger person....... THAT IS, until the SRT Tour Group came to a local shop near by and we were invited and as I sat in all FOUR; the jeep, the challenger (which is what I thought I'd love and did NOT), the 300 and the Charger. I was REALLY IMPRESSED with the new Charger SRT; kind of a WOW factor. Also loved the 300. The Challenger just looked really cheap, to me, compared to the other two. The Jeep was just OK, didn't remind me of a performance vehicle as far as looks. Wish I could have drove it though.
I've had mine since the 15th. At first I didn't like the new body style BUT in person the car does give off a more aggressive look. The MDS is annoying at times but hey a few miles more on a tank of gas will help me save up for mods down the road. Took her to the hills in San Jose and the curvy roads really allowed me to test the stock suspension and upgraded tires. One word for the tires... STICKY... As for suspension I felt like I had great rebound and while not in sport mode... In sport mode I felt like I was in a old corvette getting beat up over every bump lol. All in all this car is like crack... I have never been in a car where right after I got out of it... I felt like life was better inside and tried to come up with reasons to get back in lol Anyways... Everyone is entitled to their opinions... A test drive is not a long enough time behind the wheel to really get the feel for the car... First off you need atleast 300 miles on it to really break it in to the point where the computer is used to its hardware. Until then the car is still a bit clumsy. I can tell a big difference now that I just hit 350 miles from when I first got it and I absolutely love it now.
Ordered a 2012 Super Bee I ordered a 2012 Super Bee. (The Super Bee is a simplified SRT8 - but has the same engine -and costs $6,000 less). It seems no one knows about the Super Bee reease. The dealers don't even know about. Westbury Dodge was surprised it was available when I visited them. I told themI could not afford the full Charger SRT8 at $47,000 and that the Super Bee at $41,000 made it reality. After spending 45 minutes going over the car and explaining how for $41,000 made this deal perfect for me. The salesman came back and demanded another $10,000 over MSRP. The idiots don't realize that would make it more expensive than a full blown SRT8 charger. Who would pay more for less? I cursed them out and went to another deraler and bought it for MSRP. Why are these dealers such money hungry crooks. I curse you Westbury Dodge. You lost a customer for life. I can't wait for my Super Bee. Now I have to sell my Magnum R/T to make roomin my garage.
That's awesome so did you go yellow jacket or black? I thought about waiting till the supercharged version came out but my tires were going bald and time for a lot of maintenance so I was like screw it... I'll just go to the dealer and have them add that option later when it is available.
I ordered the yellow. Not my favorite color. Where did ou hear a supercharged version was due out? On a SRT8, it will be 650 HP.
How come you didnt get the black if you dont like yellow??....the surpercharger deal is just a maybe for now...if it does come out probably will be mid/late 2013....it is supposed to be a dealer installed option so you could get one for yours IF it does come out...
I really don't either colors, so I took the less of 2 evils. For $6500 more, I could have gotten the SRT8 in Red, but I had to cut corners here. Maybe the yellow will grow on me. I betthe supercharger option is $8,000.
WOW! I know this is an old thread, but since I'm in the market for a 2012 Charger, this thread really helps with the decision making. I'll need to do a test drive soon...like next week! Thanks for the info...even if it was a while back.
That is what old threads are for...lots of info can be found using search......good luck with the test drive and make sure to let us know if you end up buying one..:ilovesrtc:
So, does the 2012 Charger SRT8 have the 392? I have a friend with an R/T with the upgraded media center. Very nice! Still like my Challenger....
When I test drove a 2012 Challenger SRT-8 392 6 spd. in the rain the traction control works great to keep car straight. It's a quiet car and doesn't seem as big it looks. Maneuvering in parking was was easy. Good power for heavyweight.
