I have a friend that has Pirelli Scorpions on his SRT-10 Ram but they are shot and didn't last long. I realize the soft compound is responsible for this but does anyone have an alternative tire that you could recommend? I have Vreds on my SRT Charger and have been extremely pleased with the overall handling and performance of these tyres. Have any of you tried the 305/35/22 Vred? Thanks for input.
The Scorpions are GREAT for a road coarse track, but SUCK on the road. We replaced the Scorpion's with Falken's on Maureen's 10. WOW, what a vast improvement. Smoother, just as sticky in the turns, no more pulling when hitting an uneven part of the road, etc... We kept the same size tire...
305/40-22 is the OEM size for the SRT-10's. It's a very difficult size to find. Only 16 options from tire makers, and of those only 4 are W-speed rated. The Scorps (the tire; not the band) are dreadful for daily driving. Their soft compound wears quickly and it flat-out sucks in wet/cold weather. BUT....get them on a road course and they are fantastic! The BFG KDW's are a popular choice, but pricey as hell. Again, a soft compound that would be awful running to Taco Bell and back, but on a track they're a great way to go. I run the Hankook Ventus. They have a nice high treadwear rating (420AA) and perform well in all conditions...even in an inch of snow! Probably not the best track tire for this truck, but since it's my daily driver I'll make the little bit of sacrifice. I've had them for about 18,000 miles with minimal signs of wear. I purchased them from Discount Tire Company after they said they'd price-match any confirmed online price. www.tires-easy.com has the best prices on tires for the SRT-10. (I haven't ordered from them but they're great for price-matching locally....heh heh) I have not heard anything about the 305/35-22 Vreds.
I put Khumo's on my truck. For me they are alright. Dry traction seems about the same and I really haven't had a chance to see how they do in wet conditions. The overall driving feeling is a lot better than the Scorpions. It tracks on the road a ton better. For the price it is a good tire. But I am going with a stickier tire for my next batch.
