Finally!!!! 1st LX in the 10's! |
|

Well - our event in Indy scheduled for today got frozen out. I knew people were working hard this weekend to get in the 10's, so I went searching for an open track. All of the Cincinatti traks are closed from flooding. So the closest one turned out to be Beech Bend in Bowling Green Kentucky.
Got to the track, and it was colder than cold. Don't know the DA yet, but I'm sure it was negative - very negative.
Spent an hour getting ready, changing tires, installing skinnies, heating the bottle, cooling the engine, changing tire pressures, recalculating on/off points for all three stages of nitrous, changing fuel tables through the Predator, etc.
Lined up, did a big burnout, and set a new LX record:

I ran again later, and actually was on pace to shatter that time as well. My 2nd pass was the following:
60' - 1.637 seconds (.073 ahead of the record already)
330' - 4.451 seconds( .082 ahead of the record 1/4th the way down the track)
1/8th mile - 6.927 seconds (still .054 ahead of record pace)
But...the tranny was failing.
100' 9.119 (slower than record pace)
1/4 mile - 11.014 @ 121.01
The tranny was cooked. I didn't like the way it smelled at the end of the run. I didn't like the way it sounded.
So I let it all cool off and packed up and called it a day.
The track didn't seem to care how fast I ran. When I pulled up to pick up the 10.89, I opened the slip, looked at the guy, and he just smiled and never said a word. When I pulled up for the burnout, the track worker was on the headset to the tower. I could see him pointing at me and I thought "uh oh - here it comes." Then they motioned me into the water boxes, and off I went.
Picked up the 11.01 slip. Again - not a word. I think I could have run all day without trouble if it weren't for the tranny.
Incidentally, on the 240 mile drive home the car (including tranny) worked flawlessly.
